Acting and Musical Theatre Classes Ages 7-14


Acting Up at The Pearl Ages 7 -14
We’ll have you rolling in the aisle with our Comedy Classes. On top of audition technique and basic theatre need-to-knows, Students will learn what it takes to make em laugh! It’s not just about funny lines, Comedy comes from your whole body, so be prepared to move and don’t be afraid to get silly! The class will showcase with scenes from some of Theatre’s greatest comedies! Class minimum is 6 with a maximum of 15.

Musical Theatre Ages 7 - 14 
Learn how to express yourself through song and dance! Don’t forget the acting! A true triple threat knows how to act their way through a song. Students will learn Musical Theatre Audition skills, basic theatre terminology, How to combine acting and singing, and must-know theatrical dance moves. The class will showcase with several Broadway hits they have worked on in class. Class minimum is 6 with a maximum of 15.

Katie HarrisonInstructor: Katie Harrison
Hailing from East Tennessee, Katie moved here to serve as the music director/performer at Six Flags Astroworld (RIP). She has been seen on stage throughout the Houston area, as well as had her hand in several productions as Choreographer or Costumer. She served as the Education Director for Fort Bend Theatre for four years before becoming a founder of the former Historic Queen Theatre in Richmond, Tx and served as the Artistic and Education Director. She was also the Artistic Director for Zack’s Cabaret’s in Galveston where she wrote, directed, and performed in several cabaret style dinner shows. She has Directed and Performed for Main Street Theatre for Youth for the past thirteen years and has a huge passion for encouraging young artists to follow their dreams.

Teen Scene Study for Ages 12-17

TEEN SCENE STUDY FOR AGES 12-17 will focus on script analysis and scene study with a partner in a fun and creative environment. In addition to studying scenes, students will also work on a monologue of their choosing. This class is designed to teach students the craft of acting and expand their capacity for dramatic expression. Utilizing a variety of theatre improvisational games, activities in movement and characterization, and other exercises, young theatre artists will develop skills in using their body, voice, and imagination as an actor. An invited showcase will be held on the last day of class for friends and family. Class size is limited to 12.

Instructor: Renee van Nifterik
Renee van Nifterik is Co-Founder and Artistic Director of the Pearland Theatre Guild. Currently, she teaches Theatre Arts at Berry Miller Jr. High in Pearland ISD. Past youth directing credits include: Alice in Wonderland, Chemical Imbalance, Cinderella, The Wizard of Oz, Anne Frank and Me, and The Rules of Comedy, among others. Her previous stage acting credits include: Cleopatra in Antony and Cleopatra, Lady Macbeth in Macbeth, Beneatha in A Raisin in the Sun, Bully/Welfare in In the Blood, Rizzo in Grease, and Hermione in Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale. Renee is currently in her final year of a Master’s in Theatre Production program.
She also holds degrees in Business Administration, English, and a Master’s degree in Information Science.
Additionally, Renee is a National Chekhov Certified Teacher Candidate. She believes in a student-led collaborative approach to actor training that encourages inquiry and discovery within a safe and creative environment.
